The name CUNNTAS is pronounced “KOON-tas”. It comes from the Scottish Gaelic word cunntas, meaning “account”, “accounts”, “accounting” or “reckoning” — a name that reflects both the purpose of the platform and its Scottish identity.

CUNNTAS has been designed as an integrated financial platform rather than a collection of disconnected accounting tools. Bookkeeping, banking, invoicing, purchases, VAT, payroll, reporting, document management and financial administration operate within the same Organisation and accounting records.

One Platform for Your Organisation

Every Organisation has its own CUNNTAS workspace containing the financial and administrative functions available to it.

A single User Account can be authorised to access more than one Organisation. This is particularly useful for business owners, directors, accountants, bookkeepers and groups of related companies.

CUNNTAS also supports Organisation relationships and group structures, allowing businesses that operate through several entities to manage them through one User Account while maintaining separate accounting records.

Bookkeeping and General Ledger

At the centre of CUNNTAS is a complete double-entry accounting ledger.

Transactions generated throughout the platform flow into the Organisation's accounting records, providing a consistent financial record rather than requiring information to be repeatedly entered into separate systems.

The accounting functions include the General Ledger, Chart of Accounts, journals, accounting periods, nominal accounts, transaction histories and supporting audit information.

CUNNTAS is designed to support recognised UK accounting requirements and controlled Accounting Frameworks appropriate to different types of Organisations.

Banking

CUNNTAS provides integrated banking facilities designed to connect banking activity directly with the accounting ledger.

Bank Accounts can be established for each Organisation and connected through supported banking and Open Banking services. CUNNTAS is awaiting completion of the required FCA approval process before automated Bank Connections can be provided. Manual statement upload and controlled reconciliation remain available during this period.

Bank transactions can then be reviewed, classified and reconciled against the Organisation's accounting records.

The platform is being designed around connected banking rather than unrestricted manual alteration of bank-statement information, helping preserve the integrity of the financial record.

Sales and Customers

CUNNTAS provides facilities for managing customers, sales and amounts owed to an Organisation.

Sales functionality includes customer records, Sales Invoices, Credit Notes, payment allocation, outstanding balances, transaction histories and aged receivables.

Permanent financial documents provide a continuing record of invoices and Credit Notes issued through the platform.

Purchases and Suppliers

Supplier and purchase functions provide the corresponding facilities for expenditure and amounts owed by an Organisation.

Users can maintain Supplier records, record Purchase Invoices and Credit Notes, manage payments and review outstanding liabilities and aged payables.

Transactions are integrated with the General Ledger so that purchases, VAT and payments form part of the Organisation's complete accounting record.

VAT and Making Tax Digital

CUNNTAS includes VAT accounting facilities designed for UK VAT-registered Organisations and Making Tax Digital requirements.

VAT functionality includes controlled VAT rates, VAT treatment of transactions, VAT periods, VAT calculations and preparation of VAT information.

The platform is also designed to support more complex Organisation structures, including VAT groups where several companies form part of a single VAT registration.

Payroll

Payroll is included as part of the CUNNTAS service rather than being sold as a separate add-on.

Payroll facilities are designed to support employee records, pay information, deductions, PAYE-related processing, National Insurance, pension information, payroll periods, payslips, payroll accounting and associated statutory administration.

Payroll transactions can be reflected automatically within the Organisation's accounting records, connecting payroll expenditure and liabilities with the General Ledger rather than treating payroll as an unrelated external system.

Financial Reporting

CUNNTAS turns the underlying ledger into meaningful financial information.

Reporting facilities are designed to provide management and accounting reports including Trial Balance, Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, General Ledger activity, receivables, payables, VAT information and other financial analysis.

Reports are generated from the Organisation's accounting records so that Users can move from an individual transaction through to the resulting financial position.

Departments and Financial Analysis

Organisations can use Departments and other accounting classifications to analyse financial activity beyond the basic nominal account.

This allows income and expenditure to be separated according to the way an Organisation actually operates and provides more useful management information without requiring separate accounting systems.

Accounting Frameworks and Reference Data

CUNNTAS maintains controlled accounting and system reference data centrally.

This allows the platform to provide consistent accounting classifications, VAT treatment, Accounting Frameworks and other standards while preventing individual Organisations from inadvertently changing values that should remain consistent across the system.

Importing Existing Accounting Records

Businesses moving to CUNNTAS do not necessarily have to abandon their existing accounting history.

CUNNTAS is being designed to support the import and mapping of accounting information from established accounting systems, including data originating from platforms such as Xero, Sage and QuickBooks.

Organisations can also begin with a new CUNNTAS accounting structure where that is more appropriate.

Documents and Permanent Records

Financial administration produces documents that need to remain associated with the underlying transaction.

CUNNTAS provides permanent billing and accounting records and is designed so that relevant documentation can remain connected with the Organisation's financial information and audit history.

Audit Trail and Event History

Accountability is built into the platform.

CUNNTAS records important system and User activity so that significant actions can be traced. Audit and event information helps identify what occurred, when it occurred and the User or system process responsible.

This is particularly important where several Users have access to the same Organisation.

User Accounts and Permissions

CUNNTAS separates the individual User Account from the Organisation.

A User may therefore work with one Organisation or be authorised across several Organisations without needing separate login credentials for each company.

Access and permissions can be controlled according to the User's relationship with each Organisation.

Security and Two-Factor Authentication

Security is an integral part of CUNNTAS.

Every CUNNTAS User is required to use Two-Factor Authentication through a compatible Authenticator App, including Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and other compatible applications.

A User may choose to trust a browser under their control for 30 days, reducing repeated authentication while retaining the protection provided by Two-Factor Authentication.

Recovery Codes, trusted-browser management, controlled sessions and security audit information provide additional account protection.

Support Access

CUNNTAS includes a controlled Support Access system.

Where assistance requires access to an Organisation's workspace, temporary access can be provided through a controlled process based upon User approval rather than giving support personnel unrestricted permanent access to customer accounts.

This provides support capability while maintaining accountability and User control.

Help, Warnings and Interface Guidance

CUNNTAS has been designed to explain its functions within the interface.

Context-sensitive Help (?) facilities explain fields, terminology and functions where additional information may be useful.

Separate Warning (!) facilities identify information or consequences that require particular attention.

This allows detailed guidance to be available when required without filling every screen with lengthy instructions.

A Responsive Workspace

CUNNTAS is designed to provide a consistent workspace across desktop, tablet and mobile displays.

Financial information is organised into clear blocks, registers and work areas rather than relying on crowded rows of controls. Tables and financial records are designed to adapt appropriately to smaller screens while retaining access to the underlying information.

Subscription and Billing Administration

Organisations can review their subscription status and permanent billing documents through CUNNTAS.

Invoices and Credit Notes provide a permanent record of subscription charges and adjustments, while payment and subscription status can be administered through the platform.

One Straightforward Price

CUNNTAS is designed around a simple pricing model.

The service costs:

£30 per Organisation per month, plus VAT.

The monthly subscription includes the CUNNTAS accounting and bookkeeping platform together with payroll.

We do not believe a business should have to assemble its core financial system by purchasing a basic accounting package and then repeatedly paying extra for essential functions.

The CUNNTAS subscription is therefore intended to provide the Organisation with its complete core platform, including:

CUNNTAS has been developed around the requirements of businesses and Organisations operating in the United Kingdom.

That means UK accounting conventions, VAT, payroll, banking, company structures and statutory financial administration are fundamental parts of the platform rather than adaptations added to software originally designed for another market.

CUNNTAS supports different forms of Organisation, including limited companies, LLPs, sole traders, partnerships, charities and companies limited by guarantee.
